My name is Joanne Sullivan. I am a retired, Emergency and Internal Medicine board certified physician. I am also a cancer survivor.
I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast in June of 2010. My medical background and my connections to the medical community didn’t help me get through this difficult time. It was my networking with other cancer survivors that helped me. Their stories, their strength, and their connections carved my path to recovery.
Now, even as I have completed most of my treatment, other survivors continually encourage and inspire me. Sharing my experiences, feelings and fears with people facing similar struggles has helped me deal with cancer.
This is why I decided to create a cancer support group. Based in Westborough, Massachusetts, Cancer Support for All, or CaSfA, was organized the summer of 2011. It is a group committed to helping ALL those whose lives have been touched by cancer--men, women and children survivors of all types of cancer as well as their loved ones.
CaSfA provides support and hope through all stages of survivorship—from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond. We offer networking and informal discussion groups and frequent social events. CaSfA also hosts monthly workshops and presentations that focus on improving our physical, emotional and psychological health. We often have special classes, such as yoga and T’ai Chi, for interested members. Frequent newsletters keep members informed about cancer related events occurring on the web and across the nation. The newsletters also contain information about cancer related news, such as current research, new cancer drugs, and updates from various medical conferences.
Membership in CaSfA is free. Benefits of membership include our informative and educational newsletters and personal email invitations to our events.
